It started as usual: coffee, breakfast, lounging. Then Scott read while I got my software configured properly to work. I would have been absolutely lost without ChatGPT. It's as amazing and helpful as it is terrifying. I guess it's one and the same.
Then we went for another bike ride! First we stopped at Dick's and bought biker pants. Since these were less expensive than the last Dick's we were at, Scott got a pair, too.
We did the same part of the Loop trail as before, but we started from the other end. It was a much better experience. Going out, I was convinced that the trail was 98% uphill. But coming back, maybe because we were tired, it still seemed we had to pedal.
We parked at Home Depot on Costco Blvd., but a better place would be the Sportsman's Warehouse.
The last time we rode this trail and started at the other end, we started in the parking lot of the Oro Valley Marketplace. This time, starting from the other end, we went past that point to see what the trail looked like. I'd seen on a map that the trail extended a few miles beyond to an entry point to the path on a street. It was beautiful! It was a steep ride, though. The terrain looked a lot like the Saguaro National Park.
There were a lot of people on the path, lots of bikers, some walkers. But it didn't feel at all crowded. We never had to wait to pass people, and no one had to wait to pass us. We did have one incident. Scott stopped at a turn not realizing there was someone right behind him. That person had his feet strapped into his pedals and he fell. Scott said the guy was not hurt. I am always a little afraid of a crash because some people don't announce that they are passing you. Not that this guy was guilty of that, but just in general.
We also crossed paths with a member of the self-appointed Guidance Patrol of the bike path. As we were enjoying the ride down a long hill, a wizened graybeard bedecked in his fancy official biker costume coming the other way yelled "helmet" as he passed us. It's hard to get nannies like that out of your head!
I had pushed myself to go all the way to the end because I thought the ride back would be easy. Yeah, not so much. It was still a long ride. We rode for 1.5 hours out and 1.25 hours back, including a stop at Walmart for more water. The bike shorts were very helpful. Still, bike riding uses muscles that are not ordinarily used, so I was wiped out.
