Phoenix/Mesa: Day 4

We tried to get out and about, but it's not easy.

After having coffee, Scott exercised, and I added to the blog. Then we took our bikes to a local bike shop. It's in the next suburb over, and it took 25 minutes to get there. I think it would easily take an hour and a half to get from one end of the Phoenix metro area to the other. It's crazy how spread out everything is.

The bike shop, Landis Cyclery, was very nice. They said they could add extensions that would raise the handle bars. They might have to redo the brake lines, but they surely need it after so many years with no maintenance. They have to order the parts, unfortunately, so we won't have the bikes back until next week.

After that we went to Dick's looking for a weighted vest for Scott. He wouldn't get one because they're expensive. PS it took us 20 minutes to drive here.

Then we headed to Usery Mountain Park, another 20-minute drive. We parked along the trail at a picnic shelter. I insisted on trying to walk the trail for a bit. It was lovely, but Scott wouldn't let me go farther than about half a mile. The sandy surface was actually very comfortable to walk on, but my left foot has been overcompensating for the right heel-walking and it started to hurt. It was good that we turned around when we did, but sad.

When we got back to the shelter, he set up some chairs in the sun and we read. After a while, I got hot and we moved to the shelter. We read for about 15 more minutes, and though it was nice to have the beautiful view spread out before us, it's sad, for me, to just sit there and look at it. It's much funner to be in it for hours and getting some exercise. Plus there were some flies, not biting, but still a bit annoying.

So we packed up, hit a grocery store, and headed home. I made dinner--we have now had the same dinner every night since we got here.  I used our new Blackstone griddle. It's a lot to cart with us when you think about it, but it is pretty handy to have.

Then Scott went to the hot tub and I practiced.

We played cards, we watched some tennis. At some point, we went to bed and watched more tennis but fell asleep while Djokovic played Musetti.
